Welcome!
This website contains a collection of valuable information intended for owners
and/or operators of Katadyn (or PUR)
Model 40E reverse osmosis watermakers.
Included are tutorials on the installation, use, maintenance, and troubleshooting
for a Model 40E watermaker, and a detailed video on the disassembly, Repair
Seal Kit installation, and reassembly of the 40E.
Also included are the original Katadyn 40E Owner's Manual and a copy
of the book I wrote about these watermakers in 1998. My book includes
information on all of the powered models manufactured by PUR and Katadyn. Both
texts are in Adobe PDF format and you will need to have Adobe
Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to view them. If you haven't
already installed the reader, you can download and install it for free from
Adobe by clicking the handy link on the left. To do this, or to visit the
Katadyn website, you'll need to have an Internet connection.
A Note About PUR vs. Katadyn Watermakers:
The highly regarded Swiss company, Katadyn, Inc., bought the
watermaker division of PUR from Procter & Gamble several years ago. The
physical construction of the more recent watermakers made by Katadyn is, for
all practical purposes, the same as the original PUR models, with this
caveat: Katadyn has corrected some original PUR design problems to
improve performance. The information on this website applies
to Model 40E watermakers from both PUR and Katadyn. Where features
differ they are duly noted. For more background on this topic, click the
"PUR/Katadyn Information" link on the navigation panel on the upper left of
this page.
Please help spread the word about this website!
I strongly encourage you to help me get this valuable information to your
fellow cruisers. If you have a website, consider installing a link to this
website. When you're having a relaxed conversation over a cold drink and the
subject of watermakers comes up, let your friends know about this online
resource. Finally, if you can't find the answer to a question you have about
your watermaker, send me an email at powersurvivorhelp(at)ishipaco(dot)com
and I'll try to help you. Thanks in advance.
